Was Jesus nailed to the cross?

As simple as this question may seem, many christians may be unable to scripturally proof that Jesus was nailed to the cross. Some people misunderstand the bible to mean that Jesus was simply hanged on the cross by benign tied to it as suggested by Peter’s statement in the book of Acts.

Acts 5: 29-30 29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. 31 Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.

Acts 10:38-43 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. 40 Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. 42 And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. 43 To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”

We can get the answer from the first hand eye-witness acount of Peter and the other apostles. One of the very significant eye-witness account that we can consider in this matter is that of John in John 20 where one of the 12 disciples of Jesus requested to see the scar from the nail pierced arm of Jesus and to touch the scar from the piercing on the side on Jesus during his crucifixion.

John 20:24-29 24 Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said to him, “We have seen the Lord.”So he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

26 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!” 27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.”

28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Jesus said to him, [f]“Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Jesus was indeed nailed to the cross! However we must understand beyond the physical event that the importance of Jeusus death was to pay the price of sin for our redemption. It was okay for them to be eye-witnesses because that was important for the Christian faith to have eyewitnesses. We must understand that Jesus said blessed are those who did not have physical experience of the crucifixion but believe. This is because, salvation in Christ Jesus is grace through faith in the redemmptive works of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Are you saved? Do you believe that Jesus christ died for your sisns and was raised again the third day fr your justification? Have you confessed him as Lord of your life? These questions are very important for us have a solid yes to. Because Jesus nailed to the cross was a substitutionary work of salvation, which means that Jesus was crucified in our stead so that we can be saved.
