This is a good question to ask. It is better to ask such questions lest you begin to seek unrighteous means of meeting your needs. But rather than ask such questions I think what we should ask is how can I be supernaturally prosperous? What God wants for us is beyond just meeting our daily needs and causing us to live a prosperous life.
My first counsel to you as a Christian will be to first of all understand God’s promises in scripture to you concerning financial supply and divine prosperity. I would classify this answer into 2 forms. First is divine prosperity, this is God enlarging your coast such that you have an abundant supply of your financial and material needs. Second is timely divine provision, where God supernaturally meets your needs mostly by sending people to give you gifts that you did not work for. I’ll challenge you to go through scriptures that talk about God’s promises for your divine prosperity and supply. This is one of them:
Psalm 23:1-2 1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.(NKJV)
Imagine God as your shepherd everytime. Think about it, do sheep go to their shepherd to complain about their needs? No! The shepherd takes the initiative to provide their needs and guide them on the path of prosperity and abundance. So if the Lord will lead you, you will need to follow. How then will you follow? First will be to see Him as your source of the power to make wealth.
Deuteronomy 8:18 And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.(NKJV)
Now take this mindset towards your handwork. Let God lead you towards prosperity in your handwork. It is through that handwork that you will be blessed in your finance primarily. Let God inspire ideas with which you will flourish in your work place. The bible encourages us to work but don’t see your work as your source, rather see God as your source! Yes the bible encourages us to work.
2 Thessalonians 3:10-13 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.(KJV)
However, you must still honour God as your source of financial supply and this will cause your heart to rest on a sure foundation in God rather than you idolising your job. When you live with a mindset of God being your source, your dependence on him will be top notch. The first thought that cross your mind when a need arises will be to tolk to God about it. In doing so, He will inspire your heart to know what to do as touching that particular need. Sometimes it will be that He inspires you to talk to someone about it or that he inspired you to be still and not anxious about it. Other times He can inspire your heart to make faith declarations concerning the matter. Making faith declarations usually activate the ministry of Angels towards meeting your needs. Yes angels were created by God to also offer supernatural assistance to us.
Heb.1:13-14 13 But to which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?
So the last thing God wants of his children is to go about begging for money or material things or incurring debts upon debts. God desires that you flourish!
Another way to flourish is to approach your finance as a steward as though the resources were put in your hands by God to use it according to His will. This means that you will put first your resources towards the furtherance of God’s kingdom. Jesus though thus powerful truth about priotising God’s kinggdom above your needs and watch how those needs will be added unto you. I know these sound counter intuitive, you should primarily save and invest your money, but here the bible is saying you should first give towards the furtherance of the kingdom. It is by your giving that you will provoke the increase of God upon your investments! The bible says Paull plannted and Apolos watered but God gave the increase. See what Jesus said:
Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
One of the things God encourages us to do with his resources that he places in our hands is to give. God loves a cheerful giver! And the one who gives boutifully and cheerfully will reap bountifully! So you must give correctly in terms of quantity, intention and the place you give to. Some places or people are not fertile grounds to give to. For instance giving to bribe someone or giving to promote idolatary or sinful events. The most fertile ground to give to is people who will use your resources for the prosperity of God’s kingdom like christian leaders, missionaries, church members, your local church, other believers who are in need.
2Corinthians 9:6-8 6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows [d]bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.
I will encourage you to check through the scriptures to see what the scripture says about God’s promises concerning your prosperity. 2Corinthians 9 will be a good place to start from to better understand God’s perspective of prosperity.
