Wealth and Abundance

Divine Principles to unlock wealth and abundance

We must understand God’s stance as touching our prosperity. God’s will is that we prosper and be in health as our soul prospers.

3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.NKJV

The word prosper was used in 1Cor 16:2 to refer to material Prosperity

1 Corinthians 16:2 On the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God has prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. AKJV

Therefore, God wants us to prosper materially and be in good health as we grow spiritually (the soul’s prosperity). This is all-around prosperity! The prosperity of the soul is primarily spiritual growth, which happens as we pray and study God’s word.

1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby:

The development of the soul doesn’t just usher us into divine prosperity; it also helps us maintain and use this prosperity correctly. This is the difference between an unbeliever’s prosperity and that of a believer. We will see as we proceed why the prosperity of the soul is important in this matter.

1 Timothy 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

Prosperity of the soul begins with training us to not be prideful and to put our trust in the riches but in the living God. The first training of the soul that we must have is that we are stewards of God. This means whatever resources we have do not belong to us but to God, and we use them not for our selfish choices but for His glory. This is the first truth that must be established. We must train our minds to know that all that we have comes from God. It is based on this understanding that we will live our lives in pursuit of God, not things. See what Jesus said;

Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say to you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Matthew 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they?

Matthew 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit to his stature?

Matthew 6:28 And why take you thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

Matthew 6:29 And yet I say to you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Matthew 6:30 Why, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Matthew 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

Matthew 6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you

Having trained our soul in the matter of seeking first the kingdom of God, our soul must understand that this is a covenant. God will add material prosperity to our lives when we seek His kingdom first. This is a very profound truth that will revolutionize your Christian walk. When you pray about a matter for a long time without an answer, this is one area to check. For instance, if you desire to be healed of your sickness so that you will be available on this earth to contribute to the furtherance of God’s kingdom by preaching the gospel and financially supporting the preaching of the gospel, you will surely be healed!

Also, if you’ve been job hunting for a while and nothing is coming forth, maybe it’s time to start plunging into this covenant of using your resources when you get the job for the furtherance of God’s kingdom, and then you will see this result. I have seen this truth revolutionize my life.

Another area that our soul needs to prosper is in the understanding of how to unlock wealth and abundance. The previous truth from Matthew 6:33 clarifies our motives and will also help in activating wealth and abundance. However, we need to understand that our souls need to unlearn the ways of the old man, which is hardship, toiling and suffering, and poverty. God’s prosperity is not one that comes by toiling but by rest. We are not of them who hustle their way out of poverty but of them who flourish their way into wealth and abundance. To flourish, we need to be connected to the source! That source is Jesus Christ. When we are connected to Him, who is the vine, then the things that are in Him, which include wealth and abundance, will find expression through us as the branches. Trust me, there is no poverty in Jesus. It is important that we know this;

2 Corinthians 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might be rich.

Although Paul is using Jesus as an example to teach sacrificial giving, which we will still talk about later, He is also teaching us a new creation reality! Poverty is of the fallen Adamic nature, just like sickness is too. The redemptive works of Jesus have translated us from that old life into a new, prosperous life. He has made us rich through His poverty! All the poverty that you should experience has been experienced by Jesus at crucifixion. There is therefore no more poverty left for you to experience today! Why then do we still have poor Christians today?

Philemon 1:6 That the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.

Our soul needs to prosper first through the renewal of the mind! This reality needs to dawn on your mind that prosperity and wealth are on the inside of you! The inner man, which is regenerated at salvation is now a new creature and is now of the lineage of God. As a child of God, you are now of the commonwealth of heaven, a joint heir with Christ. Your inheritance in God does not include sickness and poverty! One day when this truth dawned on me I exclaimed; “I have transitioned into God’s realm of prosperity, therefore, I can never be poor”. Oh! I can never be poor in my life! What about you? The good things that are in you in Christ will find expression in the physical as you acknowledge them.

Having formed this foundation the next thing to do is to live life based on these renewed mindsets that we talked about earlier. Then we work and give with these renewed mindsets mentioned earlier.

When you are God’s steward, you will let Him be your shepherd:

Psalm 23:1-2 1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.(NKJV)

Acknowledge God as your shepherd every time. Think about it, do sheep go to their shepherd to complain about their needs? No! The shepherd takes the initiative to provide for their needs and guide them on the path of prosperity and abundance. So if the Lord will lead you, you will need to follow. How then will you follow? The first will be to see Him as your source of the power to make wealth.

Deuteronomy 8:18 And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.(NKJV)

It is not the economy, or your place of work that gives you the power to make wealth, but God, your shepherd. No wonder Isaac prospered in a famine land because He sowed where God led Him in Gen. 26.

Genesis 26:2 And the LORD appeared to him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell you of:

Genesis 26:3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you; for to you, and to your seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father;

Genesis 26:4 And I will make your seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give to your seed all these countries; and in your seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

Genesis 26:12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundred times: and the LORD blessed him.

Genesis 26:13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great:

Genesis 26:14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him.(AKJV)

Egypt in this context looks like a logical place to go during a famine, but as people who have made God our shepherd, our lives are not limited by the logic of the five senses but by divine leading and direction! I ask you, do you know how to hear God’s voice? Do you know how to follow His voice for this is one of the most vital abilities a Christian must possess?  Take this mindset towards your handwork. Let God lead you towards prosperity in your handwork. It is through that handwork that you will be primarily blessed in your finances. Let God inspire ideas with which you will flourish in your workplace. The Bible encourages us to work but don’t see your work as your source, rather, see God as your source! Yes the bible encourages us to work

2 Thessalonians 3:10-13 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.(KJV)

However, you must still honor God as your source of financial supply and this will cause your heart to rest on a sure foundation in God rather than idolizing your job. When you live with a mindset of God being your source, your dependence on him will be top-notch. The first thought that crosses your mind when a need arises will be to talk to God about it. In doing so, He will inspire your heart to know what to do about that particular need. Sometimes it will be that He inspires you to talk to someone about it or that he inspires you to be still and not anxious about it. Other times He can inspire your heart to make faith declarations concerning the matter. Making faith declarations usually activates the ministry of Angels towards meeting your needs. Often times these angels will go on to stir people’s hearts to meet your material needs without you discussing it with them. Yes, angels were created by God to also offer supernatural assistance to us.

Heb.1:13-14 13 But to which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?

So the last thing God wants of his children is to go about begging for money or material things or incurring debts upon debts. God desires that you flourish.

Another way to unlock divine wealth and abundance is through your sacrificial giving

2Corinthians 9:6-8 6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

This scripture was in the context of encouraging the Corinthians to give to other Christian communities that were facing hardships due to war and persecution. So, we see a powerful truth about giving as He likens it to sowing. Please note that we first and foremost give in honor unto God not so we can be blessed.

Proverbs 3:9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;

Proverbs 3:10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.

However, one of the things God encourages us to do with His resources that he places in our hands is to give. God loves a cheerful giver! And the one who gives bountifully and cheerfully will reap bountifully! So you must give correctly in terms of quantity, intention, and the place you give to. Some places or people are not fertile grounds to give to. For instance, giving to bribe someone or giving to promote idolatry or sinful events. The most fertile ground to give to is people who will use your resources for the prosperity of God’s kingdom like Christian leaders, missionaries, church members, your local church, and other believers who are in need.
